Past Performances…
Friday 13th November – Ah! Friday 13th – Bands cancelling, no body with a drum kit etc., etc. We got there in the end and were treated to Wicker Sunday, playing at short notice, shovelling heaps of energy at us, underpinned by a sweet Sax. Ben’s vocals informed and insisted, keeping us on our toes trying to decide on the genre. It’s their own! Impressive! We will see them again. Jericho Scream were next up. I’ve still got one particular song of theirs going round in my head. Solid stuff. TheDismissiveATTACK took to the stage as headline a little reluctantly. They needn’t have worried, audience loved ‘em. These Derbyshire Battle of the Bands finalists showed what a trio can do when the songs are carefully crafted and delivered with commitment. See them again too!
Friday 30th October – Three Derby heavyweights weighed in for this one. 3 Ring Circus showed there Stateside gigging experience as they cruised through beautiful songs that always seemed familiar.. Second visit for The Maffa Kings, strutting their powerful stuff again. Magnificent! Esteban vocalist Steve snapped around the stage punching out lyrics that framed those fabulously infectious ‘south of the border’ riffs – fantastic! How do we keep doing it!
Friday 16th October – Revisiting The Ballroom were both Clockworkz and Starscreen. First timers were The Early Years who impressed with a confident set, great vocals – all sorted. Starscreen showed how power can be used gracefully with their subtle playing off two guitars and Daz’s vocal sat in between! Clockworkz showed us how to meld prog rock with power female vocal – all carried in the slight frame of the amazing Sarah – what a voice! Another winning night!
Friday 2nd October – We knew this one was going to be ‘interesting’ with three very different bands occupying The Ballroom stage. As usual, all brilliant. Swift Flasby’s americana rock, Disco Kiss playing catchy, funked up pop-rock and Burdock – well! Imagine Paul Weller with a sense of humour and you are not far out! Cheers everyone.
Friday 19th September – A chance for us to show the locals that there’s local talent. Scrim, Clockworkz and Archaic blasted us through the night with another wildly appreciative room full of ecstatic punters! Amazing!

Friday 18th September – The start of another ‘double’ weekend and what a start. The James Warner Prophecies, Eskimo Fires and Japanese Government Railways played to a packed ballroom where it seemed to me the audience loved all of it! Literally bus loads arrived – cheers guys.
Saturday 5th September – The idea of staging female singer songwriters paid off big time with a marvellously relaxed evening. Lindsay (asked back after a great performance the previous night!), Kezia, Murder City Sweethearts and finally Sarah Mac dazzled us with perfect performances. We loved you all!

Friday 4th September – Lindsay eased us in to the evening with some gorgeous songs, beautifully sung. The Telephones loudened up a bit with some great melodies and a stunning finale. Paper Planes ended the night with a supercharged set featuring Joe doing strange stuff on vox and keyboard! Thanks everyone.
Friday 21st August – another top line-up drawn from the far-flung corners of the East Midlands. TheDismissiveATTACK kicked off the night brilliantly giving way to absurdly talented Rebel Territory who had acquired a fan base bristling with enthusiastic gaga! You-V-Me finished the night in style, dragged back out for an encore whilst half way out the door!

Friday 7th August – The Souvenirs, Starscreen and Pint of Mild produced an epic night with memorable performances from all three bands! The press gave us (well, The Souvenirs) a great piece in’t Mercury and their set entirely justified their blatant promotion of the brilliant new single – ’21st Century’.

Friday 24th July – The Ascension, The Maffa Kings and Last Days of Disco lined up for the third stonkin’ Band Xplosion night at The ‘Pond. All kinds of ‘stuff’ played – from punk to psychedelia to dark rock. Look out for pics to follow.
Saturday 11th July – the second unbelievable Band Xplosion at the Fishpond saw the Amplifires, Scrim and the Weaker Head take stage for a truly memorable night of hard hitting music. Many thanks to all the artists for doing their bit to make it rock! =(;-)=
Friday 26th June – Launched the new Fishpond venue into space with stellar performances from SKM, Sarah Mac and Murder City Sweethearts. Great night and thanks to all the artists for making such a buzz…til next time =(;-)=
See new pics in the album section.

The philosophy behind Band Xplosion is:
· To promote local bands within the East Midlands
· To provide them with the opportunity to play to an audience and learn
from it
· To have the support of professional sound and technical engineers
Band Xplosion is a growing group of people who are keen to keep music
live at its grass roots level by providing an outlet and support for
new, unsigned bands to move on and develop. It is up to the bands to
promote their gig to friends and family, not just the organisers to get
the audience.
What we will provide for the bands:
· We will provide digital posters to bands for their promotion
purposes, as well as do local press releases, radio interviews etc.
· We will deal with the venue for all matters concerning Band Xplosion,
all future dealings with the venue are for the band to discuss.
· There will be a FULL PA rig including, front line speakers, monitor
speakers, mixer desk, mics, lighting and sound engineers.
· A small stage for the band to play on.
· At the end of the night, takings will be split between the bands
equally less a £50 charge for the hire of the PA and lighting.
What we expect from the bands:
· A commitment to the philosophy by sharing knowledge withother bands,
offering services, and help promoting the gigs.
· At the very least a demo disc of their music and a commitment to get
the required practice in for about 30-45 minutes worth of material.
· All bands will need to bring their own back line of guitar amps etc.
or be willing to share by prior arrangement.
· Co-operation on the night to be ready and willing!
